Sometimes DVDs and Netflix just don’t cut it; sometimes you just need to get out there and catch a piece of cinematic excellence on the big screen, am I right!? Well if you’re ready for a good movie night out on the town like I am, no need to travel to White Marsh or Hunt Valley – there are awesome theaters right here in Baltimore! Here’s a list of some of the great places you can go see all the latest box office hits:
- The Senator: this historic landmark just had it’s grand reopening after a two-year hiatus from the entertainment scene! A $3.5 million renovation and expansion project has transformed this place into the crown jewel of York Road. New seats, new carpeting, new everything – you gotta check it out! Businesses in the surrounding area are thrilled with the influx of moviegoers, and many of the merchants of Belvedere Square’s market building are extending their hours on certain nights to appease patrons. The Senator’s neighbor, Shoo-Fly Diner, is another new addition to the community. It offers a menu with tons of variety and is sure to be a huge hit (it’s owned by the same guy that runs Woodberry Kitchen, so it’s bound to be good right? … Hopefully you’ve been to Woodberry so you understand my reference – but if not, check that hot-spot out too, it’s delicious!) So grab dinner in Belevedere and then head over to the Senator for a show. What a perfect night out on the town!
- Landmark Theaters: located in Harbor East, this is a great place for the classic dinner-and-a-movie kind of night. The surrounding area offers countless dining options like Ra Shushi, Bagby Pizza Company, and Taco Fiesta – just to name a few. And might I add, there is a full bar right in the theater, so for all my 21 and over friends, the option is there! (Just sayin’) Hop of the Collegetown shuttle to Penn Station then catch the Charm City Circulator to Harbor East for an easy transportation option without the hassle (and expense) of parking downtown.
- Rotunda Theaters: located near Johns Hopkins, Loyola, and Notre Dame on West 40th Street, this quaint theater shows the latest hits on all five of its big screens. Its convenientlocation offers plenty of parking; and in the next two years the entire plaza will undergo some serious renovations – so keep your eye out for new additions and improvements!
- Spoiler Alert! Cinemark plans to open a state-of-the-art theater in the Towson Circle Shopping Center in the fall of 2014. Construction is under way, and the end result will undoubtedly be amazing!
So check the times, get the tickets, settle in with a big bucket of popcorn, and enjoy the cinemas in Baltimore!
